 Main Building, IIT Kharagpur IIT's have been the forerunners of Engineering Education in India. The vision of Nehru was the key to the foundation of the IIT's in India. Today there are over 10 IIT's across different states. The most important ones being IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee. The others are still to have any formal class or be founded.
